SPRC Diaper Drive Provides Diapers, Supplies and Peace of Mind

                         Diaper Drive

Spartans come from around the world with varying interests and experiences, and each of their journeys at Michigan State University (MSU) are unique.

This is true for MSU student parents – those who are parents when they arrive at the university and those who become parents along the way during their college career. While their experience may differ from “traditional” college students because of their additional responsibilities, they are still committed to their education.

The Student Parent Resource Center (SPRC) within the Division of Student Affairs and Services (SAS) is ready to help with guidance and resources. Located in the University Village Community Center behind 1855 Place on the west side of MSU’s campus, this agile team works beyond its size to ensure MSU student parents’ needs are met, so they can focus on academics, their experience and development, and successfully reaching graduation, and their families.

One of the most impactful events led by the SPRC, is their Diaper Drive. In the past, the Diaper Drive has been largely successful in providing many families a financial break, peace of mind and, of course, supplies for their children. Most student parents at MSU rely on the SPRC and this event, in particular. One student parent said “Being a medical student with 80-plus hours of studying and no employment, any kind of support helps my family get through a financially challenging time of our lives. Receiving diaper donations is really helpful as this is one less thing our family needs to spend money on, making it possible for us to spend on necessities like food and rent.”

Unless you’ve been a parent, you may not be aware just how intense the cost of diapers is; it is not a matter of spare change. “Diapers are expensive, and we need a lot of them every day,” said another MSU student parent. “Getting some in donations certainly helps a lot in managing our expenses.”

SPRC’s Diaper Drive helps student parents the ability to focus on other things. Another MSU student parent said, “Receiving diapers from the SPRC allows us to use money that we would've spent on diapers for food, clothes and learning activities for our son.”

Something you will find throughout the entire MSU community is helping hands, and that is exactly what the SPRC is seeking throughout their Diaper Drive. This year's drive begins Monday, Sept. 27, and continues through Friday, Oct. 8. The SPRC will accept diapers, diapering supplies or monetary donations. Local pickup options are available, or you can send donations to 1199 Garden City Rd, Room 107, East Lansing, MI 48823
