RSO Spotlight MSU CIUS

November 18, 2020

The Coalition of Indian Undergraduate Students (CIUS) organization at Michigan State University was founded in 1989, to celebrate Indian culture on MSU’s campus. As one of the oldest Registered Student Organizations on campus, MSU CIUS provides opportunities for members to get involved and build a greater sense of community and strives to raise awareness about culture and values in ways that benefit members. CIUS provides a platform for members to express themselves while also giving them an opportunity to give back. In order to facilitate their outreach, CIUS invites others to join in their endeavors, since achievement lies in a strong tie between South Asian youth and other members of the society.

How to Connect:

CIUS is an active organization at Michigan State University, with hundreds of members, both Indian and non-Indian, interested in preserving and celebrating. India's culture. The organization seeks to educate the campus community about Indian culture and South Asian culture, as well as be a support group for members.

CIUS provide many opportunities for members to get involved, build a greater sense of community and celebrate diversity through events, such as a Diwali party and Holi celebration. There is also an annual show, Satrang, to showcase various forms of Indian dance. CIUS also provides a platform for members to express themselves while also giving them an opportunity to give back, such as through our annual CIUS Day of Service.

COVID-19 Changes

Online events have been a regular occurrence since the outbreak of COVID-19. CIUS has hosted webinars in the past to support those in a crisis that covered issues with employment, travel, business or student visas and gaining renewals/extensions, USCIS services and more. CIUS created the 2020 Mock Award superlative to bring members closer and reflect on a successful year for the RSO.
