RSO spotlight: Jewish Student Union (JSU)

The Jewish Student Union (JSU) – part of MSU Hillel, the Jewish Student Center – serves as the voice for Jewish students at Michigan State University (MSU). Through programming, engagement, leadership and advocacy, the JSU works each day to serve the Jewish community on campus. The JSU is made up of a five-person executive board and a 30-person general board. The JSU is a member of the Council of Progressive Students (COPS) and strives to work in collaboration with other member organizations of the Council of Racial and Ethnic Students (CORES) and COPS.

How can Students Connect:

Why Join?

Students can get involved with JSU to learn more about Jewish life and culture, to connect with their Jewish heritage and religion, and to be a part of the Jewish community at MSU. Additionally, students can participate in weekly programs and Shabbat dinners, as well as collaborative programming between JSU and other student groups on campus.


  • Weekly Shabbat Dinner, 6 p.m. each Friday at MSU Hillel
  • Sparty’s Hanukkah Party, during Fall Semester before Finals Week each year
  • Israel Week, during Spring Semester each year
  • Sparty’s Bar Mitzvah Party, during Spring Semester before Finals Week each year
