New Assistant VP named to MSU Division of Student Affairs and Services

Anthony T. Williams Jr. has been named Assistant Vice President for Student Rights and Responsibilities and Dean of Students. He will join the Division of Student Affairs and Services (SAS) at Michigan State University Monday, July 26. 

Williams currently serves as the interim associate dean of students at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) where he oversees operations within the Dean of Students Office, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and downtown initiatives for the Division of Student Affairs. Williams also supervises the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution (OSCCR). He previously served in student conduct roles at GVSU, as the director of OSCCR, and at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, where he was an assistant director for Housing Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution. Williams also served as a residential college director at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo.

Williams is a highly involved student affairs professional, active in several professional and social organizations, including NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, the Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA), the Association of Title IX Administrators (ATIXA), 100 Black Men of America, Inc. and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. Williams has facilitated nearly 100 workshops and presentations at local, regional and national conferences and has been recognized for his student development and innovation efforts.

Williams earned a BS in Business Management from Chicago State University and a MS in College Student Personnel Administration from Illinois State University. He is currently working on his Ph.D. in Urban Higher Education with Jackson State University and is expected to complete the terminal degree next year.
