The event will offer students free food, like pizza and s’mores, and an unlimited supply of free cider and doughnuts, popcorn, and MSU Dairy Store Ice Cream. Highlights of the event range from crafts, like pumpkin decorating, to giant inflatables. There also will be the always-popular therapy dogs, joined this year by MSU Police Department’s K9 dogs.

A number of drawings will be held for prizes including a Keurig machine with 80 K-cups of assorted hot beverages for cold fall nights; a high quality Samsung TV; a comfy MSU lounge chair; a Fitbit Charge 2; Beats Solo 2 headphones; MSU apparel; and various other Spartan accessories.

“Fallapalooza is a fun and efficient way for students to get acquainted with the units that are apart of Student Affairs and Services and those located in the Student Services Building,” said Dr. Denise B. Maybank, Vice President for Student Affairs and Services. “All of these units support student success and help to extend your learning beyond the classroom.”

Besides learning about the services that Student Affairs offers to its students, Fallapalooza! “is a good way to kick-off fall,” said Student Life’s Erik Maillard, one of the event’s organizers..

All Student Affairs units, such as Recreational Sports and Fitness Services, the LBGT Resource Center, the Office of Cultural and Academic Transitions (OCAT), the Center for Service-Learning and Civic Engagement, the Student Parents Resource Center, the Veterans Resource Center, the Career Services Network, Student Life, IMPACT 89FM student radio, and even the Student Affairs Copy Center will be participating. Non-Student Affairs entities such as the MSU Police Department, Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, Student Health Services, Financial Aid, MSU Federal Credit Union and other “Friends of Student Affairs” also will be joining the festivities.

Some of the free activities hosted by the units include a caricature artist, pumpkin putt putt, copy cat origami, button making, trivia, ping-pong competition, a photo booth, shell game, and cornhole, as well as music by the award-winning IMPACT 89FM student radio station.

Another aspect of this event that makes it so exciting, explained Maillard, is that “it is 100 percent free to students. All of the food, games, giveaways, prizes, and therapy dogs are completely free.”

“Last year, students ate more than 30 gallons of Dairy Store ice cream!” said Maillard. “Plus 25 gallons of fresh apple cider and 25 dozen doughnuts. Vice President Maybank has generously assured us that we will not run out of these treats this year,” he added.

This is only the event’s second year, but in 2016 it was wildly successful, according to Maillard.

“It was, as some have called it, ‘obnoxiously successful’ the first year,” said Maillard. “We planned for 500 people, and 1,500 came.”
