IM Sports Circle Celebrates 100 Years During Homecoming
IM Sports Circle will celebrate its 100-year anniversary as part of Michigan State University’s homecoming events.
IM Sports Circle will host an open house for MSU alumni, students, and members of the public from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, October 14. There will be tours of the building and photographs of the building starting with its construction in 1916. Visitors can learn about the history, research, classes and sporting activities taking place in the building while enjoying cake and refreshments.
“The IM Sports Circle building has spent a century providing opportunities for MSU students, faculty and staff to keep moving and stay healthy all year long,” explained Angela Michael, assistant director of Recreational Sports and Fitness Services.
According to Michael, the building has had many functions over the years, such as being the ‘Women’s IM’, but it has always offered everyone a variety of activities, including basketball, swimming, dancing, and badminton.
The Rec Sports Department and the Department of Kinesiology in the College of Education and are located in IM Circle. The Department of Kinesiology uses IM Circle for many of its classes, as well as research and teaching labs equipped with the latest technology.
IM Circle also houses a dance studio for the Department of Theatre, group exercise classes, and serves as the meeting location for several Registered Student Organizations.
“The building still has many of the original features and is a beauty to see,” enthused Michael. “Come take a tour and join us in celebrating IM Circle’s 100th year!”
